I’m a freelance writer and editor, mother to two small children, and sporadically keen investigator of our family history. I started blogging because I wanted to read more about feminism and women’s history, but what with babies and work and whatnot, was really struggling to find the energy and focus.

Inspired by a Mumsnet discussion, I thought I’d try taking a woman-centered approach to the family history research and see whether that got things moving.

I’ve ended up reading some excellent history books written by women, probably more so than straight feminist theory, but I count that as reasonable progress. I’m not really posting here at the moment, but have just renewed the domain for another year, so maybe it’s not quite dead yet.

  1. I love your thought processes…like you, I’m something of a closet feminist!

      Oh, thanks!

Although … I’m definitely not closeted, but very openly feminist. I’m really sorry if that seems like nitpicking your nice comment, but I do think it’s important to not apologize for feminism, or hide it. (updating to say: I have come back later and re-read this, and it really does sound incredibly smug. But still)

I’m just a bit daunted by all the reading and thinking and keeping up that it entails to really keep abreast of the movement. I recognize the crapness of this, but hey, nobody’s perfect. Maybe when the kids are older I’ll find it easier.
