That sounds excellent - thanks so much for posting about it. (I have just tried to reply on your blog, but couldn't, owing to a Blogger error.) I live in the UK, so I won't be able to attend, though I wish I could. Is there any chance the event might be recorded and made available to view online?

Thanks again!

Dear Ms. Genealogist.

I am not at all sure where you live, and I found this post this morning just as I was posting something myself about Jill Lepore. But if by some very freakish accident you are in the Philadelphia area, I wanted to let you know about this event.

Hi there. I think that you've possibly got the wrong impression - I'm not Jill Lepore (the author of the essay on Jane Franklin, which I agree is great), and she's not connected with this blog at all. But I'm sure that any (reasonable) letters sent to her c/o Harvard's history department would be passed on.

If you see this reply, please respond so I know that you've seen it, and then I'll delete the exchange.

I'm trying to find a letter I wrote a few months ago to all the 'great' living women I could think of. (I think I ended up sending it to three: Michelle O., former Virginia Delegate Shannon Valentine, and Rev. Rachel May...

I just read your stirring essay on Ben F's sister Jane.

I'm 54 and have noticed my whole life that women are just better human beings than men....that families fall apart, not when the patriarchs die, but when the matriarchs die...

I'd like to send you my letter (when I find it....it's in a pile somewhere), but it's hand-written (about 3 pages) and I don't have time to transcribe and email (and I hate pc's anyway. I still prefer hand-writing)

Can I just send it to you at Harvard?

"History isn’t brain surgery. Even when it’s done poorly, it’s not fatal." Jill Lepore
Keep up the good work! And how is it that BOTH of us were not raised in the US?
